Jenny Kingsley
Members of three London Liberal Democrat constituency parties convened at a joint Adoption Meeting on 13th April to add an official seal of approval to the selection of their candidates at the forthcoming General Election. Kensington & Chelsea's Jenny Kingsley, Regents Park & Kensington North's Rabi Martins and Cities of London & Westminster's Marie-Louise Rossi were enthusiastically adopted by their respective local parties for the poll on 5th May.
The three candidates joined with party members to listen to speeches from Lord Willy Goodhart (Liberal Democrat spokesperson in the House of Lords on Legal and Constitutional Affairs), Baroness Lindsay Northover (Liberal Democrat International Development spokesperson in the House of Lords) and Paul Marshall of the Liberal Democrat Business Forum.
Welcoming the adoption of the candidates, Baroness Northover said:
"How lucky this part of London is to have a team of such outstanding Liberal Democrat candidates."
Lord Goodhart listened to the candidates promising to be resolute in defending civil rights and personal freedom, and drew parallels with his own work in Parliament, saying:
"The Liberal Democrats hold the balance of power in the House of Lords, where our party has been in the forefront of defending our ancient freedoms."
Marie-Louise Rossi
In a joint statement issued by Jenny Kingsley, Rabi Martins and Marie-Louise Rossi, the candidates said:
"The fifth of May will be a day of national judgement on Tony Blair and how he misled both Parliament and the country, leading to chaos in Iraq.
"Michael Howard and his discredited Conservative Party have been principle cheerleaders for the invasion and for so many of Labour's most authoritarian and illiberal policies while themselves failing to come up with enough policies which stand up to the scrutiny of how they will be funded.
"Only the Liberal Democrats offer the people of our constituencies a set of costed, credible and just policies, and we are - all three - looking forward to the fight."
