Tony Blair has signalled a new attempt to abolish jury trials in complex fraud cases as part of their election manifesto. Only last month, Mark Oaten, Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary signalled our party's opposition to such a policy: "Abandoning juries from fraud trials altogether would be to start down the slippery slope to removing juries from a whole range of other trials," he said.
"A sensible way forward would be to look at creating smaller juries with specialist skills to oversee complex fraud trials."
Jenny Kingsley, Lib Dem Candidate for Kensington & Chelsea added, "This is another example of the gradual erosion of the civil liberties under this Labour government. The Liberal Democrats are the real alternative for people who want to cast a vote for safeguarding the pillars of our justice system from Tony's tinkering."
