Colville School - the old Laundry is the building to the left
Labour Councillors in Colville (North Kensington) knew about shocking plans to sell off land in Colville Primary School to a private school - but they didn't tell the community. A French school wants to buy the Old Laundry building and outside space in the school grounds which would severely cut back on the children's play area.
The plan was rubber-stamped by planning officers behind closed doors. It didn't go to the Council's planning committee because Colville Labour councillor Keith Cunningham TURNED DOWN the chance to have the plan scrutinised.
Carol Caruana, Liberal Democrat FOCUS team candidate in the 22nd July by-election said, "What on earth were Labour councillors thinking? Shouldn't they have been organising protests as the Council agreed plans to privatise part of our community school?
"The Council say they consulted the local community on the plans by sticking a planning notice on a lamp post outside the school and telling a few flats. Is this supposed to be some kind of joke?
"If I am elected on Wednesday, I will work hard to ensure the privatisation does not go ahead. Planning permission is one thing, but the sale is quite another and even if Labour won't campaign against it, parents can be sure that I will."
