Kensington & Chelsea Lib Dem Councillors Carol Caruana and Tim Jones
Local residents have elected two Liberal Democrat councillors in the Colville ward of Kensington & Chelsea, turning this previous Labour stronghold into a Liberal Democrat ward with the Labour councillor in third.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Carol Caruana was re-elected less than ten months after her by-election victory. Carol won 1459 votes. New Councillor Tim Jones won 1244 votes and the Labour councillor scored 1096 votes.
Liberal Democrat campaigner Peter Kosta, came extremely close - just 35 votes behind the elected Labour candidate. Peter is an integral part of our team. He worked exceptionally hard during the campaign, and our delight in victory is tempered by the fact that he didn't make it too.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Candidate Robin Meltzer has congratulated Malcolm Rifkind for winning the Parliamentary seat of Kensington. Robin thanked his supporters for helping him win 6872 votes across Kensington. Robin said: "It's been a pleasure to stand as a candidate in my home constituency of Kensington. We have campaigned on local issues and achieved more than ever before. The fantastic Council result in Colville ward is further proof that the Lib Dems have the momentum in Kensington. I am delighted that Carol and Tim will be up there in the Council Chamber, fighting for the rights of local residents. It's a genuine breakthrough for us."
