Peter Kosta: the local choice for Cremorne
Kensington & Chelsea Liberal Democrats have chosen experienced campaigner Peter Kosta, a local resident in Cremorne, as their candidate for the Cremorne by-election on 16th September.
The by-election was called due to Conservative councillors resigning over inappropriate use of the Council's email system.
Peter has stood as a council candidate before, coming just 35 votes short of getting elected in May 2010 in Colville ward.
Peter has lived in Cremorne for 23 years. He has also lived in Earl's Court among other parts of London. He was born in Cyprus and raised in Bristol. Peter was an English teacher in a German Grammar School before beginning a theatre career in London.
Peter said: "I am delighted to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for my own ward of Cremorne at this election. I joined the Liberal Party at the age of 16 and have been a member ever since.
"Apart from my interest in cultural activities within the Royal Borough, I also have a particular interest in housing. I oppose the cold-calling which has gone on recently to pressurise local residents to leave their homes on the grounds that they are over-accommodated.
"With all the new-build that is going on in our Borough, it is frustrating to see the Council bow down to developers and let them off the hook when it comes to providing affordable housing. The Conservatives have missed so many opportunities to create mixed communities and the result is part of the massive shortfall in affordable homes per year.
"If elected on September 16th, I will work tirelessly for ALL local residents, where-ever in the ward they live. People round here have been taken for granted by the Conservative-led council for too long. On September 16th we all have the opportunity to send them a powerful message and do something about it."
