As Vice Chair of the London Liberal Democrats and an experienced campaigner with a proven record of success, Robin Meltzer has worked with local teams all over London and beyond in local and Parliamentary elections and by-elections.
Robin Meltzer
Recently, Robin led the local party in Kensington & Chelsea, breaking through the two-party grip to gain three councillors in two years in a Borough which had never won Liberal Democrat seats before. He ran the two winning by-election campaigns in the Borough: Colville in 2009 (beating Labour) and Earl's Court in 2010 (beating the Conservatives). Colville won the Campaign of the Year award from the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors and Robin was presented with the Albert Ingham award for nationwide campaign organiser of the year by the Federal party.
At the last General Election, Robin was the Parliamentary Candidate for Kensington, securing almost 20% of the vote against Sir Malcolm Rifkind. He also helped regularly on the ground in Richmond Park and North Kingston and retains strong ties with Liberal Democrat teams across South West London.
Robin Meltzer says:
"For me, the lifeblood of politics is campaigning on local issues, on the ground, effecting change for local people. I have been heavily involved in many campaigns across London, including the Save Portobello Market campaign, supporting traders and local residents in their fight to prevent this world-famous market becoming another identkit high street.
"I have been involved in many cross-London campaigns organised by the Liberal Democrats, including most recently the Air Quality campaign, supporting our team at City Hall on our new policy on a Clean Air Zone for London. A winning by-election I ran was one of the early pilots for a campaign which will grow in intensity as we get closer to the London elections in 2012. Thousands of Londoners a year are dying prematurely from London's toxic air; it's a shameful record and the Mayor of London has failed spectacularly to deal with a situation which has put London in the position of being the dirtiest city for air quality in Europe."
